About Our Trips
|
  Most
treks require a minimum of 2 to operate. The maximum group size
we allow is 15. By keeping our groups small, we can be more flexible
and better attend to the needs of all group members.
The rates quoted on this site are for individual bookings on standard
trips.
If you want to organize your own group
or itinerary, contact us and we can negotiate a special rate for
you.
|
Trip Format
|
All standard Adventure Thamserku Himalaya trips follow a similar
format, commencing and ending in Kathmandu.
|
DAY 1 is meeting day in Kathmandu. All group members should
arrange to arrive sometime on this day. We can be there to welcome
you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel.
Once all participants have arrived, you will meet with your
guide in the pleasant hotel grounds for an initial briefing. Your
guide will describe what to expect in a typical trekking day,
what equipment will be required, answer your questions, and check
that everyone has adequate personal gear for the trip. Your trek
pack will also be described, which includes a kitbag, a sleeping
bag, an inner sleeping sheet and possibly (depending on the time
of year and region visited) a down jacket.
The
guide will explain that the kitbag will be carried by a porter
throughout the trip, while you carry in your own pack only those
things needed during the day (water, snacks, sunblock, hat and
sunglasses, a warm jacket, etc). On our more adventurous mountaineering
trips, other gear will need to be organized such as plastic climbing
boots and crampons.
In the evening, group members may gather informally for a meal
together at one of Kathmandu's fine restaurants.
|
|
There will be time on Day 1 or 2 to visit downtown
Thamel
to purchase or rent any additional equipment required.
|
On DAY 2, we arrange a morning sightseeing trip around
Kathmandu. In Nepal, Hinduism and Buddhism are the two main religions,
which co-exist peacefully and have intermingled in complex and
wonderful ways! We visit Bouddhanath, one of the largest Buddhist
stupas in the world. Here we may see monks at prayer in their
maroon robes, and Tibetans walking clockwise around the huge white
mound, spinning the prayer wheels as they go. We also visit Pashupatinath,
the most famous Hindu temple in the country, on the banks of the
Bagmati River. Holy men (sadhus) are often found here, and funeral
pyres may be burning on the cremation ghats.
Our sightseeing itinerary is flexible,
and alternative destinations such as Durbar Square, Swayambhunath
(the Monkey Temple) or Patan are possible, on group consensus.
In the afternoon, you will meet again for a final pre-departure
briefing. The trek packs and maps will be distributed. You will
have time to organize your packing and shop for any last minute
items.
We plan to leave Kathmandu on DAY 3. For our Everest
trips, we fly to Lukla; for trips in the Annapurnas, we fly to
Pokhara or take a coach trip to the start of the walk. Note that
sometimes there can be a delay in departure due to weather conditions
affecting the safety of a flight. But all being well, Day 3 involves
arriving at the start of our trek and a brief walk to our first
lodge or camp site.
The days that follow are according to our individual trip notes.
At the end of the trip, we arrive back at either Lukla or Pokhara.
Often we allow a full free day in Pokhara, allowing you to explore
and relax by the side of the lake there. A celebratory farewell
meal is shared with our trekking crew. We fly back to Kathmandu,
and again, our trip schedule must allow for a possible delay with
this flight. All being well, we have a full day back in Kathmandu,
to relax, sightsee, shop in the bazaars, and sample the cuisine
at your leisure.
The final day is departure day, where we farewell you
to continue your journey or transfer you to the airport for your
flight home.

Adventure Thamserku staff are always happy to help you make
other arrangements if staying on in Nepal. We can help you with
hotel and excursion bookings. In particular, you may like to add
a visit to the Royal Chitwan Wildlife Park, or a Scenic Flight
over the Everest region. Please feel free to ask about these and
other options.

Accommodation &
Meals
|
In Kathmandu and Pokhara, we stay in good quality mid-to-high
range (3-4 star) hotels, with breakfast included. Both have swimming
pools, money exchange facilities, a bar and room service, luggage
storage, safety deposit and laundry facilities.
Unless otherwise stated, all our treks involve staying and dining
in comfortable Nepali-style lodges along the way. Rooms will usually
be twin share and sometimes multishare.
For those treks designated as camping treks, we provide 2-person
tents and some fabulous camping locations! We also come equipped
with a dining tent, tables & chairs, and a toilet tent. Our
cooking crew travels along with us.
|
|
Please note that our rates are based on double
occupancy accommodation. Single accommodation can be arranged
at extra cost. If this is your preference, please state so clearly
at the time of booking and a single supplement will be added to
your trip cost.
|
Boiled water is provided several times a day to all our group
members, so that we can minimize the use of bottled mineral water
and the environmental problems the plastic bottles cause. We ask
that each person bring their own water container(s) of at least
2 litre capacity (we recommend two 1-litre bottles), which can
hold hot water. Such bottles are readily available in Kathmandu.
Meals along the track will be healthy, hearty and nutritious,
but please understand that often you will be in remote areas where
supplies are difficult to obtain, so the menu may be limited.
Ample carbohydrates are always available, though! We try to ensure
that good hygiene standards are maintained, overseeing kitchen
staff in lodges and providing hand-washing water before every
meal. Additional snacks such as chocolate bars, soft drinks and
biscuits, and also toilet paper are usually available for you
to buy from tea houses along the way.
|
Please advise us of any special dietary requirements
you may have at the time of booking your trip, and we will strive
to accommodate you.
